A 19th century French provincial Fauteuil à La Reine avec Oreilles or "queen's wingback armchair with ears". This is a large size chair-and-a-half with solid walnut frame and distinctive curved shaped ears or wings and a straight back with peaked crest. The generous seat has wide, open arms with interior armrests, a serpentine apron, and is supported by cabriole style legs. Nice decorative carved details with shell motif and rosebuds on the apron and acanthus leaves on the arms and legs. Upholstered in gold and red striped damask with brass nail head trim. Fabric is in serviceable condition with light staining. Frame is strong and sturdy. Circa 1870-1890
