An 18th Century French Louis XVI bonheur du jour ("happiness of the day") side table finely crafted with intricate marquetry of mahogany, kingwood and rosewood with slender cabriole legs and bronze sabots. This dainty French writing desk or ladies table, featuring a raised back cabinet for storing writing supplies or toiletries, plus a small surface with two dovetailed drawers beneath. Known for exquisite marquetry, and ormolu details these tables served as both functional furniture and decorative art for aristocratic ladies, blending practicality with high art. Highly decorative, compact, light and graceful, designed to be moved around a room. Working lock and key and original cast bronze hardware. In very good condition for a 250 year old antique. Minor replaced veneer. French Polish Finish. Circa 1760-1780
