18th Century French Tall Case Clock or Horloge de Parquet

An exceptional 18th century French horloge de parquet, or tall case clock, from Lyon. Made of solid walnut and in three parts: a sturdy curved shaped base; the body with door panels carved into the wood; and top with original glass panes and chapeau de gendarme crown. Enamel clock face with Roman numerals and a decorative cast bronze surround. Original seven day movement with an alarm system strikes on the hour and once on the half. Professionally cleaned and in working order with replaced wire pendulum. Superb craftsmanship with pegged and mortise and tenon construction and hand-carved decoration. Beautiful wood grain with waxed patina. Metal brackets were added the back to secure the case. Circa 1740-1760. 96.25"H x 17"W x 10"D. Hair line on the enamel face.
