French Louis XV Style Marquetry Chiffonier, Walnut & Mahogany, c. 1800
A fine early 19th century Louis XV style French marquetry chiffonier, or tall gentleman's chest. Expertly crafted with inlaid veneers of walnut, rosewood, and mahogany arranged in geometric marquetry patterns across the drawer fronts and side panels. Oak as a secondary wood. Six dovetailed drawers configured down the tall, narrow frame designed to maximize vertical storage space. Original cast brass ring pulls and ornate escutcheons. One key, some locks are not in working order. Topped with a heavy, contoured slab of 1.5" thick St. Anne grey marble top. Stands on slightly tapered legs. A handsome antique chest of great quality. Finish retains a nice luster. Minor veneer losses and repairs. Circa 1800-1840.
