An 18th century Louis XVI Period French marble top commode, or chest of drawers, from Alsace. Made of solid oak with fine hand-carved floral details, wine harvest theme with a basket of grapes and a cask, pierced apron with draped garlands. Seven dovetailed drawers with cast brass ring pulls, locks but no keys. Fluted tapered legs. Original gray and white veined marble top with shaped edge. Expert craftsmanship using pegged construction and with cased interiors for drawers to prevent dust. Nice proportions. Two flower medallions missing for drawer face. Circa 1780-1800. Note that the inside of the drawers were lined with fabric and some residues of glue are showing.
