An early 20th century American Industrial style camera stand designed and made by Century Camera for the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester New York. Hand-crafted of solid mahogany with dark stained finish. Sturdy tripod legs are bolted to a cast iron support that surrounds a square center post with self locking brackets. A large cast iron wheel with turned wood handle crank smoothly lowers and raises the top platform. One leg has a levered floor stop and all legs have castors that roll smoothly. The top has a tilting mechanism so that it can be pitched at an angle or laid flat. Brass makers plaque attached to front: Century No. 4A Studio Camera Made in the U.S.A. by The Folmer Graflex Corporation Rochester, N.Y. U.S.A. Exceptional quality and functionality, designed to support and maneuver a heavy camera. Perfect for use as a standing desk or display pedestal for a sculpture when extended, or as a side table when lowered. Circa 1927-1940.
