19th Century French Marquetry Tantalus Cordial Decanter Set
A fine 19th century French Napoleon III tantalus, or cave à liqueur, in the style of Charles-Guillaume Diehl. Serpentine form marquetry case is skillfully crafted with mother-of-pearl inlay and veneers of burled elm, mahogany, and walnut with ebonized details. Raised on turned feet. Box hinges open to reveal removable cradle fitted with four etched crystal decanters and 6 matched cordial glasses each accented with delicate gold grapevine pattern. Note: one stopper is missing and one is chipped and two cordials are missing and one has old repair. Case is in good condition, and presents beautifully, but is slightly warped on right side, so does not close completely and cannot be locked. (please refer to photos) No key.
