19th Century French Landscape Painting by Gustave Brion
A small 19th century French Impressionist landscape painting by Gustave Brion (1824-1877) a Barbizon School artist from Alsace, depicting the sunrise over a field with haystacks in the foreground and a village in the distance. Beautiful atmospheric quality of light. Signed lower right Brion. Stamped logo on stretcher is of the Paris art supply company Lefranc et Cie, whose sealed paint tubes were an innovation, allowing colors to be stored and transported by plein air artists without changing composition. They began to supply paint to boat owners, and created this new logo featuring a caduceus and an anchor. Painting is in good condition with newer gold tone frame, as found. Circa 1855-1870.
