A rare pair of Venetian hand carved polychrome painted Blackamoor sculptures depicting a man and woman in exotic costume, each standing on an elaborately carved pedestal base and holding aloft pineapples that would have held torchieres, or candelabras, now missing. Blackamoors, a trope in Italian decorative arts common in Venice, depicted North African men and women in positions of servitude and were often used to flank the entryway of a villa or hotel.
