A late 19th century French Louis XVI style secrétaire à abattant, or drop front secretary desk, crafted with intricate inlaid veneers of mahogany and various exotic woods. Four dovetailed drawers with working locks and one key. Original cast bronze hardware.A drop-front writing surface reveals a hidden desk interior that has an open niche and six small dovetailed drawers. Tabletop surface is covered in old peach mohair velvet with gimp trim and is slightly worn. Marble top is new. Good restored condition with minor veneer replacement and new brackets. Shallow proportions make this perfect for use in a small study or bedroom. Circa 1890-1900.
