A 19th century French faience wall pocket, or a bénitier, or holy water font, used for blessings upon entering or leaving the home. Commonly used today as a bud vase for flowers or as a decorative item. Hand-painted in beautiful vivid colors of blue, green, yellow and orange on white ground and decorated with a flour-de-lys and a coat of arms. In good condition with minor glaze loss. Made by Alcide Chaumeil, a significant French faience artist whose work is highly regarded by collectors, often mentioned alongside other notable producers such as Quimper, Desvres, and Malicorne. Unglazed back is marked CA. Circa 1890-1900. Shipping: $30
