19th Century Louis XV Armoire, Hand-Carved Oak, Normandy
19th century Louis XV style Country French armoire from Normandy, made of oak and carved throughout with floral and foliate ornament. The crown is surmounted by a three-dimensional flower basket, with flower garlands and acanthus leaves continuing across the exterior. The paneled doors feature large oval medallions with flower baskets carved in relief, and the scalloped apron is centered by an urn with scrolling leaves. The armoire is raised on short curved legs and retains original polished iron hardware, with a working lock and key. The interior is fitted with one shelf and two shallow drawers. Construction is pegged. The piece shows minor restoration and slight wood shrinkage across the medallions, and it may be dismantled for transport. Circa 1870-1890
