A grand scale 18th century French Louis XV Period bibliothèque, or bookcase, from the Loire Valley. Made of solid cherry wood with chestnut as a secondary wood and constructed in two parts. The large bookcase has the original hand-blown glass paned doors with decorative iron escutcheons and working lock and key, and opens to an interior with three newer adjustable shelves. The bottom portion has a niche, or kneehole opening flanked by two cabinets, each with a working lock and key. Four dovetailed drawers with large iron ring pulls. Simple carved details including a scalloped apron and a small carved foliate decoration beneath the crown. This massive piece rests on eight feet, with scrolled toes in the front. Photographed with decorative accessories and a chair to show scale, all sold separately. Exceptional quality and craftsmanship using pegged construction. Excellent condition for its age. Waxed patina. This large cabinet would be perfect for use in a kitchen or dining area, and is deep enough to store and display large platters and plates. More photos available upon request.
