An 18th c. French Louis XVI bureau à cylindre, or roll top desk, made of solid and veneer of mahogany with oak and pine as secondary woods and retaining a nice French polish finish. Built in three parts. The top has two dovetailed drawers below the original glass paned doors with working lock and key and opens to three new adjustable shelves. The left door is slightly warped. The middle part has a cylinder form with beautiful mahogany veneer and rolls open to reveal many small dovetailed drawers, a secret compartment and a tambour door with a secret locking system. The bottom portion has a sliding desk with the original leather writing surface above four dovetailed drawers. The surface veneer of the writing slide has some warping. Good proportions and nice profile to this large desk. The right side has light discoloration. All supported on solid mahogany fluted legs. Some locks are missing and some of the brass ring pulls have been replaced. In good condition for the age and use. Please refer to photos for more details.
